Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker is the winner of the main event at the 2003 world series of poker (WSOP). Chris was born Christopher Bryan Moneymaker on November 21, 1975 at Atlanta. Chris completed schooling from Farragut High School in Farragut, Tennessee. Later he earned a masters degree in accountancy from the University of Tennessee.
Chris was not a professional poker player. While working as an accountant in Tennessee, Chris won a seat into the main event of the 2003 WSOP. Chris had invested only US$40. He made history by going on to win the first prize of US$2.5 million by beating sam farha. It immediately made him a poker superstar. It was also Chris’s first live poker tournament.
Although luck played a big role in providing Chris a berth at the WSOP, yet he won the game through his excellent poker playing skills. He had not played any live tournament before WSOP, although he was playing poker for over three years. Although Chris became nervous initially while playing with many poker greats like phil ivey and johnny chan, yet he did not allow his emotions to affect his game.
Chris Moneymaker is an excellent sports person and he makes it a point to shake hands with all players on the game. He is very courteous with the exiting players too. The celebrity status has not affected Chris. He is a very practical and unassuming person. He takes things in his stride and does not make a fuss of anything. This is a very rare quality among the famous poker players. Even now, Chris plays with his screen name, Money800.
Chris quit his job after winning the title in 2003. He has been traveling to different places to take part in various buy-in tournaments. Chris also serves as celebrity spokesperson for Harrah's Entertainment and Pokerstars. You can also hear him on Playboy Radio's Morning Show on Sirius Satellite Radio. Chris has an autobiography to his credit titled, Moneymaker: How an Amateur Poker Player Turned US$40 into US$2.5 Million at the World Series of Poker.
