Dan Harrington

Dan Harrington was born on December 6, 1945 at Cambridge in Massachusetts. Dan Harrington is popular as Action Dan in poker circles. This professional poker player is a very tight and aggressive player. Dan runs a business, Anchor Loans. He loans money and invests in the stock market and real estate too. Rather, Dan finds many similarities between his business and the game of poker. Dan is also a bankruptcy lawyer.

Dan has always been into many games. He was the Massachusetts state chess champion in 1971 and the winner of the World Cup of Backgammon in 1980. Dan spent his early days at his place of birth, Boston. After graduating from Suffolk Law School, he worked as a bankruptcy lawyer for a decade. Dan was always interested in games. He played poker during his college days with some Harvard students like Paul Allen and Bill Gates. Hold'em later became the most important game at the Mayfair Club in New York City.

Dan was in the sixth position at WSOP Championship in 1987. Later, he won No Limit Hold 'em Championship and WSOP No Limit Hole 'em Event in 1995. His live tournament winnings as of 2006 is more than US$4,800,000

Although he has the nickname, Action Dan, Dan plays a very conservative game and does not take huge risks. He does not believe in winning occasionally. Dan would rather come in third or fourth position consistently. In many ways, his slow and steady temperament and game play makes him a very formidable opponent too. Dan is a very steady player and knows exactly when to make a move. He does not make any uncanny or irresponsible moves. His starting hands are stricter than hands of most poker professionals.

Dan Harrington has co-authored two books with Bill Robertie on poker. They are rather two volumes of ‘Harrington on Hold'em Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments.’ He describes different styles of tournament games like aggressive, conservative, and super aggressive too. He explains tactics and game strategies with different types of stakes too.

Dan presently lives in Santa Monica, California.
