Greg Raymer

Greg RaymerGreg Raymer was born Gregory Paul Raymer in Minot, North Dakota. His family moved to Lansing in Michigan soon and thereafter to Florida. Greg gradated from Parkway South High School in St. Louis and later majored in chemistry from University of Missouri–Rolla. He later graduated from University of Minnesota Law School in 1992. Greg worked as a patent attorney for around a decade.

Greg started as a nickel-dime poker player n his college days. He later worked as a blackjack card-counter in Indian Casinos in Minnesota to make extra money. Greg started playing poker after coming over to Stonington in Connecticut in 1999. He was working as a patent lawyer with a local pharmaceutical company. Then he started playing at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Slowly, Greg Raymer started playing professional poker. He first played at a US$1,500 omaha hi-lo split eight or better event in 2001. Greg defeated David Williams at the 2004 World Poker Series. He was the winner in the US$10,000 no limit Texas hold'em world series of poker main event.

Greg won his entry into 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event through an online satellite. Greg however, also had experience of playing in different land casinos. Greg faced elimination in the Poker Superstars III. His total live tournament winnings as of 2006 were more than US$5,700,000.

Greg uses a small fossil as a card protector while playing poker. Early in his career, he also used to sell fossils to other fellow players. Eventually, he earned the nickname ‘Fossilman’. Greg Raymer is popular for the opaque holographic sunglasses he often wears during hands.

Greg Raymer chooses to play only few poker tournaments in a year. He does not travel to play poker. Instead, he loves spending time with his wife and daughter. Greg in a very recent interview to a TV channel expressed his desire and intentions to run for the Vice President of the united states in 2008.
